Hi my name is Les Trafelet; I am the president of the preventive fire located at the West Palm Beach Area. I’ve been to fire safety business for twenty years, having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County in the south Florida area. Recently, I had a chain store called me up and asked me what is the procedure was when the fire system goes off in the hood. What I told them is, call as soon as possible, start to host down the chemicals which is usually like web, host it down and get it off your stainless steel as fast as possible, that chemical will stain your stainless steel, so get it off and clean everything as fast as you can. Get us on the phone, we get over there with our 24 hour service when the system goes off, we get over and recharge as soon as possible. It’s critical that we do it within the first 24 hours to 48 hours because the chemical that left in the pipe will harden and we can get it out and flush that chemical out and that will presents problem of repiping so for. So when the system goes off please call us as soon as possible, we get over there and we get it recharged.

Hi my name is Les Trafelet; I am the president of the preventive fire located at the West Palm Beach Area. I’ve been to fire safety business for twenty years, having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County in the south Florida area. One of the question I get to asked more often is why do we need fire safety service? The answer is that the state of Florida has adopted in the statue and in NFPA which is many, but the ones that we do are 96, 17A, 17, 10, and these are for fire safety system and fire extinguishers. How Many Fire Extinguishers Do I Need?

Hi my name is Les Trafelet; I am the president of the preventive fire located at the West Palm Beach Area. I’ve been to fire safety business for twenty years, having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County in the south Florida area. One of the question I get asked most often is how many fire extinguishers do I need? Well that is a big question, and our technicians who may come out in your location can determine that by the partitions that are in there, the square footage of your building, the travel distances. Buildings were set up in so many different configurations that are very difficult to figure that out unless we come out to your facility and measure that out and make sure that you are covered by quote and that’s what we do. We got technicians out there, we go over with you and we’ll sell you definitely as what you need for your building.

The questions a customer asked me the other day was what temperature does the fire system in my spray booth goes off? The answer to that question is we put a fusible links inside the spray booth that set the system off. This fusible links separate at different temperatures we normally put in anywhere from 165, to 212, to 280 degrees a link maybe more depending on if you have an oven or baking a paint inside the spray booth. When there is a fire inside that booth that to get enough to melt one of those links and when the links separates that’s when the fire system goes off.

I’ve been to fire safety business for twenty years, having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County in the south Florida area. Why does my fire extinguisher need to be replaced? Well, there is a multitude of answer to that question. One is for pre 1985 up to 1984 and older the information is not correct in the fire extinguisher labeling that changed in the 1984 in to 1985 editions. Also when you come across the fire extinguishers that continuously leaks, failed hydro testing, corroded beyond repair we can get parts for because the manufacturer is going out of the business, it could be a multitude of different reasons why we cannot continue servicing your fire extinguishers. If that is the case our technicians will let you know the deficiency and we have new in the truck that we can put in for you.

I’ve been to fire safety business for twenty years, having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County in the south Florida area. The questions our customers ask us is how come the bulbs in our exit lights burn out so quickly? The answer to that question is if you have incandescent bulbs in your exit lights they only rated 10,000 hours which is only a couple of months. Actually, a lot of the bulbs that we put will last up to years sometimes it come back and still burning but they really needed to be replace because they were passed due eight months ago. Really you should keep extra bulbs on your facility if you haven’t incandescent. Then there’s LE d’ lights are power conserving that they get tend to get dimmer and dimmer and dimmer after a while the fire inspector will say hey the bulbs were out on that light. The fact is that the LED is going out and going dim. The lights either needs to be replaced or new LED strap needs to be put in.

Hi. My name is Les Trafelet. I’m the President of Preventive Fire located at the West Palm Beach area. I’ve been in the fire safety business for 20 years having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County and the South Florida area.

One of the questions I get asked most often is: “Why not buy a fire extinguisher from Home Depot or Lowes?” The answer to that is when you buy your fire extinguisher from Preventive Fire and Safety Equipment, we warranty it for one year and the manufacturer warranties it for six years. We can recharge it, maintain it, inspect it and when you buy a fire extinguisher from Lowes or Home Depot you also have to buy a certification that doesn’t come with the fire extinguisher so you have to ask a company or call a company like ours to come and service the fire extinguisher which is just going to add an additional charge on. So the savings that you’re looking for is not going to be there because eventually you’re going to have an inspector come in and make you put a tag on the fire extinguisher and call a company like ours to do so. When you buy a fire extinguisher from Preventive Fire and Safety, we come out. We hang it. We tag it. It’s installed properly the way it’s supposed to be installed by the law and you’ll be fine.

NFPA10 has all the rules and regulation on servicing a portable fire extinguisher and it has been adapted into law by the State of Florida. In this manual it says that you have to have it done at least annually.

How much is it going to cost me?

The biggest question I get is: “How much is this going to cost me?” Wow, that’s a big question because until we get to your facility and really look at what it is that needs to be done and what needs to be done to the equipment and how old it is and what condition it is then there’s really no way for us to answer that until we get to your facility. For a minimum service fee we come out to your facility, do the work we can within that minimum service fee and if there’s going to be any more, we come and talk to you about it and let you know what’s going on before we proceed.

In here it says that your fire extinquisher shall be inspected at least annually by a licensed company like ours and at least monthly by the owner or occupant. How to use a portable fire extinguisher

Hi. My name is Les Trafelet. I’m the President of Preventive Fire located at the West Palm Beach area. I’ve been in the fire safety business for 20 years having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County and the South Florida area.

One of the question I get asked quite frequently is: “How do you use a portable fire extinguisher?” And the answer to that is you walk up to the fire or whatever it is that might be burning and you stand upwind if you are outside. You take the pin and you break the tamper seal by twisting the pin. Grab the fire extinguisher in your less dominant hand. Take the hose in your dominant hand. Most people are right handed. Aim the hose at the base of the fire – the leading edge of the fire. Open the valve. Sweep side to side as rapidly as you can without overshooting the edges of the fire and keep moving backward until the fire is extinguished. Of course, you want to start 8 feet at least from the fire. It’s says right here on the instruction. When the time comes that you need to use this, you don’t have time to read these instructions. And then simpient fires last approximately about 2 minutes. After two minutes more fires are not able to be put out by a portable fire extinguisher.

How long do my fire extinguishers last

by admin on April 29, 2010

Hi. My name is Les Trafelet. I’m the President of Preventive Fire located at the West Palm Beach area. I’ve been in the fire safety business for 20 years having serviced at least 15,000 customers in Palm Beach County and the South Florida area.

One of the question I get asked quite frequently is: “How long do my fireextinguishers last? ” And the answer to that question is as long as they’re manufactured after 1985, that currently meets all the requirements that I can service them. And definitely, as long as I can get the parts, powder and materials in order to maintain the fire extinguisher and then we hydrotest it every 12 years. Recently, there’s been a couple of companies that have gone out of business and when those extinguishers become due for the recharging or hydrotesting, we can no longer service them.

The question I get asked quite frequently is: “Why does my emergencylighting need to be serviced?” The answer to that question is that emergency lights are installed throughout your facility so that you can see the path of e-grass out of the building if there is a fire. In a smoke filled environment, if there’s no power, the only thing that help get you out of that building is lights – lighting your way out. We come in and we maintain those light fixtures. If they have a battery in them. The battery usually lasts for maybe 2 to 3 years and in that time they need to be replaced. if you leave a battery in there and the charger’s trying to charge a dead battery, eventually the relay start to go bad and will start to buzz. I’m sure you’ve heard the buzz in an office environment. And then at that point the whole unit needs to be changed. What we do is we come in, we make sure that the battery is good. If not, we replace it. We warranty those for 1 year.
